Michael Beets — Director, Live Cinema Pioneer.
I am a creative professional working at the crossroads of art, technology, and immersive experiences. My work spans interactive art installations, VR projects, and live film productions that challenge traditional narratives and inspire new perspectives.
Based in Melbourne, I have spent over a decade investigating the "Live Film" format—cinematic productions that are performed, shot, and edited in real-time for a live audience. This methodology explores the friction between the planned and the spontaneous, using the network as a singular, distributed film set.
“Beets is widely considered a pioneer of the live-film nexus, developing infrastructure that allows for global, real-time participation in the cinematic frame.”
As the founder of the immersive production company HERE & NOW, I continue to develop bespoke digital art infrastructure and spatial storytelling projects. My recent research focuses on the "glitch" as a site of collective agency, navigating how technical restrictions can materially represent social and political marginalization.
Beyond live cinema, I partner with brands and agencies to deliver high-end broadcast narratives, bringing a cinematic lens to commercial storytelling through innovative production architectures.
