The Vision
Following the release of 'Tourists', director Michael Beets crafted a visual narrative that graduates a mundane environment into a synthetic moment of escapism. Set within the unassuming corners of a local pet store, the film utilizes burgeoning light and a saturation of effect to illuminate a heightened reality.
The cinematography focuses on the contrast between the scaly, silent presence of the store's inhabitants and the "sparkly, silver" etherealism of the artist. Through dreamlike textures, the film rephrases claustrophobic normality into a longing for something different—a visual iteration of dreaming awake.
